Heavy rain and flooding have prompted some area school districts to close school for the day.

Albion Central, Spencerport schools, Brockport Central and Cornerstone Christian Academy in Brockport are closed. Flooding also forced the closure of the the Canandaigua City Primary and Elementary school. Staff there are asked to report to work.

Northrup Creek has overflowed its banks, and the water is making its way to Spencerport Village Plaza.

Route 259 is closed between Lyell Road and the canal. Monroe County Sheriff's deputies also warn drivers to watch out for standing water and possible road closings in the areas of Route 31, Manitou Road, Ridgeway Avenue, Route 390, and West Ridge Road.

The Lake Ontario State Parkway in Greece is also closed between Latta Road and Lake Avenue.

Ponding and flooding are also present on some City of Rochester streets.

The rain has led to power failures in Greece, Parma, and Hilton. A Rochester Gas and Electric spokesperson says 4,200 customers are without power. Rain has weighed down tree branches, causing them to come into contact with power lines. R.G. and E. crews are working on the problem

:!: Why couldnt my power be out this morning! Damn it all!
