Freakin' rednecks down here deep fry their turkeys, it's ok but it doesn't come close to a good ole' oven roasted stuffed turkey! It's funny, as you get away from the beach area (I think we're more civilized) and drive around you see deep fryers set up in peoples front yards :rolllaugh

We're definately a Turkey Family for Thanksgiving. Mom wanted to make ham one year and I think we all looked at her like she was on crack then complained until she made Turkey...... :smt023

The traditional turkey meal is a lot of work concidering the stuffing ( I like sausage/sage stuffing), gravy (don't even say canned, yuk) making fresh cranberry sauce, mashed tatters, sweet tatters, a vegetable and getting everything to the table hot! But I enjoy doing it (ask camillusk)!!

Oh, about 2-3pm on the 25th! That gives us time to watch to the football game, catch a nap and have some drinks, turkey sandwiches or turkey pickin' before bed time..... :smt023

The best Thanksgivings are with family and my favorite holiday because it's not about material things but being together, something that we miss most living here! :(

yeah, last year worked out perfect because crsh's grandma had to have surgery the week of Thanksgiving, so she did it the week before.
So we had one at the cabin the week before, one at my parents the day of, and one at his other grandparents the weekend after.
The cabin is usually on the day, as it will be this year. I'm gonna miss going to my parents though.

Maybe we'll be able to make it down there next year for Thanksgiving. This year Mark and I volunteered to have it at our house since my parents aren't sure if everything will be done with the kitchen in time.

The reason that the Rednecks deep fry their turkey down here is because there's no room in the oven because it's full of stuffed opossum bellies! :rolllaugh

Oh no! I didn't know deep frying thanksgiving food was redneck. I guess I am creeping more and more towards redneck since the mail carrier started leaving oversize eBay packages in my junk car in the driveway.
The other day I got this note in my mailbox:
"unlock the taurus, you have a book that won't fit in your mailbox"
I was thinking about deep frying something unusual for thanksgiving, it's the first one that I am lucky enough to be cooking for someone. No turkey or ham. Maybe my secret wing recipe if there will be drinking... After the fire department comes...we'll order pizza. Fine dining!!!

Next time you deep fry another turkey, take some sweet potatoes and cut them up in thin strips (like Mickey D fries) and toss them into the fryer after you take the turkey out for a couple of minutes. Salt and enjoy!! :smt040

yeah we talked about that, I need to get a basket to put in it first
MrBlues
11-24-2004, 08:40 AM
you don't need a basket, they float when they're done and all you have to do is to fish them out with a wire scoop...
