I know I know, Opinions are like assholes. Everyones got one. I on the other hand need some for Computer help. Today I got a new computer up a going after many problems. I've it pretty much done. A couple times now though, I've had it reboot itself on me. No particular reason, just while in the middle of something, it rebooted. Any ideas?

I've also got a Dell downstairs that I've had a wihle now. I do most of my movies on that one. I was ripping a DVD today and I looked to see the progress and the computer was off. I hesitantly yelled at Zoe for it cause she likes to push the buttons on it. I started it back up, started reripping the DVD info, and lo-and-behold, it shut off again. It did this everytime I tried anything on it. I'm thinking it's probably a Power Supply issue but I'm looking for other opinions. Spanks. :)

On the Dell, open it up and look at the capacitors. If the top of them is in a X shape, probably the board is bad. Major manufacturing defect.

Other than that, I'd check your power outlets for under voltage.

I thought ALL capacitors have X's on them. Everyone I've seen is that way. I had the computer on all last night and it was still on when I got up this morning. It seems to only happen when I'm trying to rip a DVD now. This just started happening. Almost like the board is getting hot or something. the other one hasn't done anything since I posted yesturday but we'll see what happens.

Depends on who manufacturers the capacitors. If they have the X and the top is a little puffy, they are bad. Other than that, if it only happends during DVDing, maybe the PSU is going. :-k

yesturday. :smt005

All the boards I have and the ones Steve has, all have that "X" in it that your talking about. Yet none of them have a bulge in em at all. That I can tell anyway. I got a call from the neighbor today, her computer is shutting off on them also. how weird is this? Seems like all the computers around me are having somewhat of the same symptoms. I'm hoping its just bad boards. I found some real good prices on them lately and I can get a bunch of em and get everything up and running. Even if it's a PS problem I won't mind. They're easy to change. I just need to get to the root of the problem. Its really bugging me that I can't copy my movies on my computer in the living room. I have to use the laptop instead. :-/

So get this... I got a brand new machine I'm running on right now. Everything has been great. Today I tried to pull a file from another computer and WHAM! the dern thing rebooted! It seems as though the only time these two new machines reboot is when I'm on the network looking at other files and folders. But the internet works fine.

any thoughts davagator? The only time these two machines reboot themselves is when I try to get on the network.
