Evan Dawson (Greece, N.Y.) -- A real-life Goldilocks story played out in Greece early Wednesday afternoon.
Dan Spencer, 22, said he was awakened from his late morning nap by the sounds of someone else in the house.
"I hear someone use the bathroom, go in the fridge, get some ice out. I thought nothing of it. [Then] they come upstairs and walk in the room, but I was half-asleep,” he said.
Although he has left the front door unlocked, Spencer assumed the person walking around downstairs was his sister. However, when he woke up later to get ready for work, Spencer made a discovery.
"I just walk down into the basement, and this guy's sleeping on my couch, sucking his thumb, with his hand down his pants, and he's wearing my clothes,” he said.
When Spencer came back upstairs, he found that it appeared the intruder hadn't tried to take anything else. But, he had helped himself to a glass of water, made a sandwich, and had a cupcake before going downstairs to pass out.
Spencer said, "I'm thinking, 'All right, don't wake him up, you don't know if he has a weapon on him or not. Let him sleep.'"
Spencer and his dad called the police, who found the man still passed out on the basement couch.
Officer Jim Leary of the Greece Police Department said, "He was awakened and taken into custody without incident."
Spencer got his clothes back and still made it into work. He said he’ll probably lock the door the next time he takes a nap.
Police have charged the suspect with burglary and petit larceny. He spent the day in jail and will be in court on Thursday.
Police had been looking for a suspect described by other neighbors as trying to enter their houses, but they do not know if this suspect was involved in any other incidents.
They don't know why he had passed out.
