My trip to Arigato:
Got there at 6:00ish, only a few people there. The inside was decorated pretty cool. The temperature was also pretty cool, almost chilly.
Speaking with the hostess, no one there is Japanese, not even the owners are Japanese. Most of them are from South Korea or Vietnam.
We took our seats around the hibachi and he took our drink orders. (plum wine = yum!) Go figure, I ordered an ice tea. He came back with our drinks and we placed our food orders. He fired up the grill, left and returned a short time later with onion soup (broth), salad (good! ginger dressing) and any appetizers. The appetizers were very small, I didn't have any so I can't comment, other than they are small.
The chef comes a few minutes later and preps the grill. He does some fancy clanging and banging and acrobats with his spatula. Its neat, not super wowing.
Then he sprayed something on the hibachi and lite it and it went up in a huge ball of flame, very warm. He throws on some low fat butter and starts cooking the fried rice. Once its done, he passes it out and starts frying the veggies. (veggies include, bean sprouts, mushrooms, squash, onion, and brocoli) Once the veggies are done, he passes them out. Then he starts cooking the meats. Fancy blade work. Passes everything out. At one point he threw some rice at Ben...I guess because it was his birthday?
The meat came out ok, good flavor and tender BUT way too salty, probably from all the soy sauce he used.
Overall I'll give it a ehhh. Not bad, but wasn't really that impressed. My meal came to about $20, I wouldn't say it was worth that much. If you want to try something different, go for it.
Would I go back there on my own? Probably not.
Would I go back there if someone invited me? Yea maybe.
:pirate AARRGH!
