CONCORD, N.H. -- Police in Concord have settled a federal lawsuit after the city agreed to start paying them to put on their uniforms before a shift and take care of paperwork and equipment afterward.
The police union had tried to get the department to change schedules after officers complained they were spending about 30 minutes of their own time each day gearing up and squaring things away. Now officers will get 20 minutes on the clock to suit up and wrap up for the day.
In the settlement, 58 officers and detectives will be paid $100 toward their legal expenses, seven former officers will share nearly $10,000 and the 51 officers still with the city will receive additional time off.
The police union initially asked only for a schedule change and said it only brought the lawsuit when it believed it wasn't being taken seriously.
l:| Are you kidding me??? Isn't that called getting ready for work? I don't get paid extra for the time it takes me to get ready for work or for the 10 - 15 minute walk from the parking lot to my office!!! (and don't forget the 10-15 minute walk back to the parking lot after work) Who do this jokesters think they are?!!?
