NAPLES, Fla. - A serial rapist known as "the Naked Burglar" wept as a judge sentenced him to 15 years for crimes including rape, attempted rape and burglary.
Jack Twardokus, 45, of Naples, was already serving a life sentence for breaking into the home of a 92-year-old woman and raping her.
Twardokus pleaded no contest to six counts of burglary, two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, one count of resisting arrest with violence and one count of voyeurism. The victims agreed to the 15-year sentence considering his concurrent life sentence.
Twardokus choked back tears in court Wednesday when he declined to give a statement about his crimes.
Assistant Public Defender Shawn Nagle said Twardokus relied on statements from his previous trial, when he said his wife was caring for the couple's young child, who was seriously disabled in a car crash. When he was arrested, Twardokus cited the stress of that injury as the motive of his actions.
Investigators dubbed him "the Naked Burglar" because the suspect they pursued for several months often took off his clothes as he broke into homes in Naples and Bonita Shores and assaulted women inside.
The 92-year-old woman, who police said was previously assaulted by Twardokus in October 2000, collected her attacker's DNA and put the washcloth in a plastic bag. Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab experts tested it and matched it with a sample of DNA from Twardokus.
